Traction device patent

ByM Ingenieros is currently developing a second R&D project, co-financed by the CDTI and FEDER funds, focusing mainly on the traction assembly made up of the electric motor and transmission.

The characteristics of an electric motor, with high torque from low revolutions, allow it to work with a single speed and without a clutch. The benefits with this configuration depend on the weight of the vehicle, the minimum autonomy and the space available in the vehicle to house the motor and battery. On a motorcycle, where the space available is small, the use of a single speed might be insufficient, with two speeds being the optimal compromise.

To maintain the vertical position of the engine and its position on the swinging arm of the suspension that optimizes the position of the battery, ByM Ingenieros is developing a very compact angular transmission with a two-speed gearbox, with the output shaft coaxial with the shaft of the rocker.

Como parte importante asociada a la transmisión, el motor eléctrico está siendo también desarrollado internamente para el mejor funcionamiento del conjunto, en colaboración con el Departamento de Ingeniería Eléctrica de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. El objetivo es conseguir el máximo par motor con la adecuada refrigeración en el menor volumen y peso posible.
