Traction device patent
ByM Ingenieros is currently developing a second R&D project, co-financed by the CDTI and FEDER funds, focusing mainly on the traction assembly made up of the electric motor and transmission.
The characteristics of an electric motor, with high torque from low revolutions, allow it to work with a single speed and without a clutch. The benefits with this configuration depend on the weight of the vehicle, the minimum autonomy and the space available in the vehicle to house the motor and battery. On a motorcycle, where the space available is small, the use of a single speed might be insufficient, with two speeds being the optimal compromise.
To maintain the vertical position of the engine and its position on the swinging arm of the suspension that optimizes the position of the battery, ByM Ingenieros is developing a very compact angular transmission with a two-speed gearbox, with the output shaft coaxial with the shaft of the rocker.
ByM Ingenieros is the owner of the Spanish patent nº 201331406 X dated 09/26/2013, with forthcoming international expansion, referring to such a traction device for vehicles.
As an important part associated with the transmission, the electric motor is also being developed internally for the best functioning of the whole, in collaboration with the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. The goal is to achieve maximum torque with adequate cooling in the smallest possible volume and weight.
